BALD TIRES ARE DANGEROUS!

Bald tires are one of the leading causes of car crashes, especially single vehicle crashes in the US.  Now add Florida rain to a set of bald tires and we have a recipe for disaster.  Tires are expensive and that is probably the main reason most people wait until the last mile to swap them out.  Do you know what’s more expensive than tires…. A car crash.

Most people have deductibles on their collision coverage and a large number of people owe more than what their car is worth. If your car hydroplanes in the rain and causes a crash those tires will seem cheap.  Most tire companies have credit cards that offer zero percent financing for 6 months to a year.

Bald tires can cause an increased risk of your car hydroplaning in the rain and can cause the car to be more difficult to handle.   Bald tires also lose air faster than tires with full tread on them. A rule of thumb that I always heard was insert an upside-down penny into the tread of your tire. Another important thing to remember is that your tires can wear more quickly if they are not being rotated and/or have inadequate pressure.  It is possible to overinflate a tire. I learned that the hard way back in high school. I was trying to impress a girl and was inflating the tire by looking at the tire. The tire exploded, ripped my shirt off, and nearly ruptured my eardrum. I learned how to properly inflate a tire with a gauge after that.
