Holiday Driving!
It’s that time of year when millions of people are planning on hitting the road for the holidays and I wanted to provide some tips on keeping yourself and others safe on the road.
The experts say to plan daylight trips and hey it’s expert advice! I myself, plan early morning trips. I will hit the road around 2:00am. That way I have had the chance to sleep and daylight will start in the next few hours. It’s also to get through rush hour or prime traffic if I am heading north and need to get through Jacksonville.
Next, we have all seen the person (or been the person) falling asleep at the wheel. They keep hitting the white line and road reflectors, waking up, and madly swerving back into their lane. This is one of the most dangerous things you can do on the road and is the same as if you were drinking and driving. You are driving sleep impaired and should pull over and catch some ZZZZs! Drive with a friend that can keep you awake or you can at least take turns at the wheel. We want to enjoy the holidays and not give our families more stress!
Also, make sure that your windshield wipers are in good condition and that your vehicle maintenance has been done. One of the worst is driving in heavy rain and your windshield wipers are failing to do their job. This goes for your tires as well! If you stick a penny I your tread and can see the top of Lincoln’s head it’s time for new tires.
Last, but not least, make sure your road snack game is strong! No one wants to eat stale chips that you found at the back of the pantry!
